ABOUT ABOUT

Who is Dr. Bob?

Dr. Bob Frederick was a former KU Athletic Director and chair of the Health, Sport, & Exercise Sciences Department at the University of Kansas.  After he passed away in June 2009, his family established the Dr. Bob Frederick Scholarship Program in dedication to the financial support of graduate students studying Sport Management at the University of Kansas in the Department of Health, Sport & Exercise Science at the KU School of Education. Proceeds from the Dr. Bob Run 5K Event support this Scholarship program at the University of Kansas.

About Event:

The Department of Health, Sport, and Exercise Sciences at the KU School of Education would like to invite you to participate in the 6th annual Dr. Bob Run.  Runners, joggers, and walkers can all participate in the 5K event, which begins at 8:00 a.m.  Also, be sure to bring out the family and support your children in the Hy-Vee 1 Mile Kids Run at 8:45 a.m.  *Please note that the Hy-Vee 1 Mile Kids Run at the Dr. Bob Run Event serves as the kick-off event for children who have also registered to participate in the Hy-Vee One Mile At A Time (OMAAT) Marathon Program.

This year, the Dr. Bob Run is partnering with KU Athletics to provide a ticket to the KU's first home conference game of the season, Baylor, on October 10th! Ticket is included in registration and participants will have the opportunity to purchase additional tickets at a discounted price. Registrants who also purchase a ticket will have the opportunity to do an on-field experience at the game! Registration is also available without a ticket.

Hy-Vee 1 Mile Kids Run:

The Hy-Vee OMAAT Marathon Program is a fitness challenge for any kid in grades K-6 to complete a marathon distance of 26.2 miles by walking or running one mile at a time.  It is intended to encourage lifelong healthy habits by being offered as a free, "on-your-own" activity that families can completed together.  Kids will be automatically registered for Hy-Vee One Mile At A Time Program when they register online for The Hy-Vee 1 Mile Kids Fun Run. Kids can pick up their packets at the same time and place as 5K registrants.

To register, please follow the following link and fill out the PDF to bring to packet pick-up or on race day:

Packet Pickup:

Participant packets will be available for pick-up on Friday, September 18 from 3 to 7 PM at Garry Gribbles’ Running Store as well as on the morning of the 19th on site. Please bring race confirmation and a photo ID to pick-up. Live registration will be available during packet pick-up both days.

Event Venue:

The University of Kansas hosts its home cross country meets at historic Rim Rock Farm. Before being donated to KU in 2004, the property was owned by former head track and field and cross country coach Bob Timmons and has been the home of the Jayhawks since the 1974 season.

Any runner or spectator will say that the course is quite challenging and unusual. In addition to having two covered bridges as part of the course, Rim Rock Farm also features specific hills, turns and other landmarks that are named after former Jayhawk greats. Dispersed throughout the course are silhouette statues of seven legendary Jayhawk distance runners including Herb Semper, Allen Frame, John Lawson and Olympians Billy Mills, Wes Santee, Glenn Cunningham and Jim Ryun.
